More Updates on the Same

Last Wednesday's Interview
I did not get the job. I got an email just before leaving work tonight stating that although I was more than qualified for the job, they came across someone with a bit more experience and bilingualism to boot. There might be another posting in January and I've been encouraged to apply at that time.

Rival Company Interview
Seemed to go alright. I'm supposed to find out about this one early next week.

Another Math Test
Today I wrote the "Complex Math Test" and was told that if I passed this test, I would have an interview for another job. I passed the test, an interview is booked for next Tuesday.

Moving
I'm am now officially in my new place along with piles and boxes and whatnot. Hopefully this weekend it will all be organized. But until then I don't have a whole lot of time. I'm about to tackle a bit of it, though. Wish me luck.

A Follow-Up Post

Math Test
I apparently made my one silly mistake that I'm guaranteed to make on any given test. Read something wrong, invert a fraction for no apparent reason or something like that. Anyway, my score for this test was 15/16. 93.75%. I was told this was "great" and "very good" as well as "excellent." I was disappointed that I did something wrong. Oh well.

Wednesday's Interview
The "excellent" from the above paragraph was from the interview on Wednesday. It seemed to go fairly well. I should hear by the end of next week if I am being offered a position.

AND yesterday, as I was sitting at my desk working, my phone rings. I look at the phone and recognize the number as a big rival company. I answer the phone. They were calling in regards to a position I had applied to a couple of weeks ago. They said they "definitely want to meet with me to discuss the position further" and I had my pick of any time on the day they were going to be doing interviews because I was "at the top of their list for people to call" I've never had a request to meet for an interview sound so promising! The interview is also at a building that is approximately 2 blocks from my new place. I'm very excited.

Moving
Tomorrow is moving day. I took today off so that I could get some more packing done and perhaps bring some boxes and smaller furniturish things that'll fit in my car over to the new place. My parents are stopping by today as well, so perhaps I'll enlist them into helping me for a little bit today. But only if they're willing, of course.

Next Week's Events

Monday 11:30 am - write a 'basic math test' in HR
I'm pretty scared about this. Well no. not really

Wednesday 1:00 pm - interview for a new job
the job is very similar to what I currently do, but in a different department. A department that tends to have overtime available. I haven't worked overtime in many many many months. With OT, I could possibly quit second job in a few months. Possibly.

and something completely unrelated:
I got my keys to my new place last night. Yay! I think I'm going to go paint shopping tonight 'cause my bedroom in the new place is kind of a light purplish pink. A little too girlie for me.
Oh! I can make this related because I'm moving next week. :)

Today's Intranet

"We have had a number of inquiries about observing
Remembrance Day... We realize that this year the process was
different than it has been in the past. A message was posted
on The Source, but this year, the moment of silence was not
prefaced by an announcement, and this caused some concern
with employees who expected the reminder. We do appreciate
the feedback we received about our change in process and
will take it into consideration for next year."

I guess I wasn't the only person to email.

Remembrance Day

For the first time in my life, I was at work and there was
no announcement for a moment of silence. I've worked with
the same company for over two years and the other years
there was a warning announcement and then the start of the
moment of silence, followed by the sounds of a bugle.

Today? Nothing. Well.. not nothing. I ended up going onto
our intranet and I did find a message saying: "Today, at
11:00 a.m. we join Canadians across the country in a silent
moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served,
and continue to serve our country during times of war,
conflict and peace...."

I must say.. I was disappointed. I actually missed 11 am
because I was expecting the announcement that we've had in
the past.

Two Good Things

Good Thing #1:
Yesterday I booked my hotel and flight for New York City this December. Yay! Ryan and I will be heading there on December 7th and coming back on the 11th. I'm defintely looking forward to this trip. It'll be nice to get away for a little bit AND it'll be Christmassy and I love Christmas.

I've been planning on going to New York this December for the past ten and a half years. I went to NYC on a school trip back in May of '95 and said at that time that I'd be back in December of '05. I will be there for the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death so hopefully there will be some memorial stuff to do. Even if I don't check out any organized memorial events, I can still definitely do some John Lennon related things for that day.

Good Thing #2:
Today I had an interview for a position within my company where I would be able to read medical information and actually be able to use my brain. I think it went okay, but I'll have to wait and see if anything comes out of it. I'm not a huge fan of interviews and I'm never completely sure how they went, but this definitely did not go badly. They still have all of the external candidates to look at, though, so I won't hear for a bit.

Things that have happened while at work lately

  • was offered a job at a rival company

  • turned down the job at the rival company

  • was offered more money for the same job at the rival company

  • turned down the job at the rival company

  • been bored and grumpy, but making use of my many colours of highliters on the many charts I fill out each day 'cause colours can make me happy... I like colours

  • applied to random (well not really random.. anything medical-related) jobs at my company

  • got an invitation for an interview this coming Tuesday

If you'd like to see what's new and made me happy outside of work, go to my Xanga.

Fairly Random Today

This week seemed so long. Each day seemed to drag on longer than the last. It made me very tired and somewhat cranky. Today I'm at home. This is much better than sitting in my cubicle at work. I decided yesterday morning right when I got to work that I was going to take today off. Got to my floor, went to my cubicle to turn on my computer, and turned around to go to the vacation schedule. I booked myself off for today.

Tomorrow I head to my parents' house for Thanksgiving weekend. It will be quite the full house and Ryan's coming with me. Alison, Greg, and their kids will be there, Andrea and her kids will be there, and of course my parents and Allie (the dog) will be there.

It's not only Thanksgiving this weekend, but also one of my nephew's birthdays and my dad's birthday. Mitchell's 4th birthday is tomorrow (Saturday) and Dad's birthday is on Thursday. My mom's birthday is coming up later this month so we get to celebrate 4 occasions this weekend!

And now I will get back to my exciting morning. My coffee is ready and Degrassi is waiting. I'm entitled to some relaxation before I tackle some housework this afternoon.

Have a great long weekend, everyone! And who knows... there's always an offchance I'll update from the folks' place. But that may be on my Xanga.

Not From Work... but I needed to share my joy

I will soon not be filled with as many woes from my lack of Quality Canadian Television night.

For the past year or so, I have been working part time in addition to my full time job (I'm sure everyone figured this out from my previous posts). My part time shifts are generally Monday night, Thursday night, every other Sunday. This was originally my scheduling around both the overtime that was available at my full time job and the fact that my Quality Canadian Television night was Tuesday night.

Last winter, both Corner Gas and Degrassi: The Next Generation were moved to Monday night. I was very disappointed by this and have since missed out on most of last season and the beginnings of this season of the two shows.

Now this brings me to my original point: fewer woes. I have just returned from the mall where I have purchased some DVDs. One set has been purchased a week late and the other just on time as it was released today. I am now the proud owner of Corner Gas Season 2 and Degrassi Junior High Season 3! YAY!

Ryan was actually watching my Degrassi Season 1 DVDs the other day. I was so proud. :) I knew my love of Degrassi would start to rub off on him at some point.

And just for Marty I thought I would include some pictures. I didn't take them or anything and my camera batteries are currently dead, but they are pictures, nonetheless.

What I Learned at Work Today

Cutting an apple with a cheap, flimsy, plastic, serrated
knife is both difficult and messy.

The Day Will Come

Some day
I will have one job
and one job only
I will be able to:
survive on this one job
pay my rent
pay my car payments
pay my insurance
pay back my loans
pay for food
with one job
and one job only
some day

It's Friday...

and I'm just about done work for the day. About another half hour and I'm out of here for the weekend.

I've decided that this will be my blog from work.
This whole update via email option has really been the deciding factor on updating this blog. I can send a lovely little email to it and it posts. Yay. I'm sure all of you already knew about this, but it's news to me. So
now any time I have thoughts from work that I'd like to share, I'll forward them on to my little blog. Hopefully people will stop on by from time to time.

If you're looking for thoughts of mine when I'm not at work, check out my Xanga blog as I'll continue to update that one from home.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Debating

Should I start using this to blog instead of Xanga?
Should I post here as well as Xanga?
Should I show my Xanga posts here?
Should I continue the way I am right now and just mainly post on Xanga?
Any thoughts?

The Blog

I created this so that I can post on blogger sites.

I currently have a Xanga blog. Now I just have to figure out which one I should use for actual updates. Most likely the Xanga just 'cause I've already been posting there for a while. Here's the address for it: http://www.xanga.com/viczan
